Growing up it was rare to find me any where else other than the local pool or school gymnasium. I played almost every sport in school (other than hockey - I know, how un-canadian of me! But I did better in the water rather than on it). I started playing water polo at the age of 7 and soon fell in love with the sport!
I was quick to follow in my dad's footsteps, making the Canadian National Team by age 15 and winning a gold medal at the Junior Pan Am games in 2011. My passion for the sport followed me to the University of Toronto where I studied Kinesiology and continued to compete in the pool; winning the OUA Championship 3 years in a row before an unfortunate injury ended my sports career.
It was at that point in my life that I decided to leave university and pursue a more hands on career in the trades. Ever since I was little I loved watching shows like Property Brothers and Income Property on HGTV. But it wasn't until I lost my ability to compete in the pool that I realized that university wasn't the right path for me. I loved academics but what I was missing was the hands on, creative elements that the trades had to offer!

When I made the transition to college, I had to fight the battle of other people thinking that "women don't belong in the trades". However my classmates, teachers and parents were all very supportive and I quickly found my footing. My eye for design, attention to detail, and passionate work ethic soon became key factors in my success as a contractor. I started working with a renovation company as my summer job in college where I ended up finding a mentor who has helped sculpt me into the business owner I am today.
I love renovating houses for many reasons
I love renovating houses for many reasons
I get to use both the academic and creative sides of my brain; combining my love of math, project management and design into one. I took the same amount of art courses as I did science courses in school, even taking a fine arts course at OCAD as an elective when I was at the University of Toronto. Now I get to combine both of my passions into a single career.
Working with people, much like playing on a team, always brings me such joy. Working closely with both homeowners and my team of skilled tradesmen (and women!), to bring people's renovation dreams to life is something I find very fulfilling and meaningful. Especially when I get to see the look of happiness on clients faces at the final reveal.
I love working with my hands. Having played sports for many years, being active was always very important to me. I'm the type of person to write up a game plan, job scope or timeline and then go be heavily involved in the actual execution of the work. I'm not just the brains behind the operation, I'm a painter, drywall finisher and labourer just the same.
Every house is different! There's nothing 'cookie cutter' about renovations. No two drywall patches are the same much like every house is framed differently. As much as you can predict what you'll find behind walls, there's always the possibility of discovering the unknown.
Lastly, I'm always up for a challenge. I welcome clients who have out of the box design ideas or those who are brave enough to "renovate blind" and turn all design related decisions over to me until the final reveal!
